OBJECTIVESAnd implement the spirit of the 'Noto true'

Department of English Language and Literature at Chung-Ang University has been playing a leading role in forming and developing academic tradition of English linguistics, English literature and English-speaking cultural studies in Korea. Our department has turned out many eminent scholars and professors and holds a firm alumni association. Alumni with competitive English skills and expertise in various studies have advanced into many parts in the society such as publication, public relations, education and economic sectors. We have reformed the curriculum in response to social demands and newly opened English education, interpreting and translation courses in order to enrich the curriculum.

We also provide specialized programs that research on the linkage between English linguistics and English cultural studies. Meanwhile, our high-tech language laboratory allows students to be exposed to globalization and utilize the facility to obtain better educational circumstance.

In order to realize the founding philosophy of Chung-Ang University, “Justice and Verity”, Department of English Language and Literature emphasizes on training of liberal and future-oriented individuals that are able to contribute to local and international communities. We specialize our students in English linguistics, English culture and English-speaking culture so that they acquire critical and analytical opinions about relations between Korean and English culture.

The primary educational purpose of Department of Language and Literature is to navigate the universality and peculiarity of English linguistics, English literature and English-speaking culture. As a result, we strive to educate students to be able to analyze and criticize international affairs and become negotiators of orders and disarrangements in the modern society.

Objectives
1. To recognize the spiritual and cultural values embedded in English linguistics and English literature
2. To train pioneers in English linguistics who are able to research and analyze a range of data written in English
    To understand universality and peculiarity of English-speaking culture, along with the characteristics and functions of
    a language and culture To embrace cultural differences with a unbiased and universal perception
3. To cultivate an ability to reason practically, logically and creatively with deep understanding of attribute of language, 
    especially English
4. To expand the area of English linguistics with active involvements in interdisciplinary researches and advance values 
    of English linguistics
